On the way down the hotel elevator to the lobby, I debate the need to teleport everyone to the island.

How difficult could it be to simply transport Tammy and a small object from one place to another? I mean, did everyone have to go? No, they didn’t. Technically, just me and Tammy... and the damn statuette.

Then again, here I am circling back to the Murphy’s Law thing, right? If Beth didn’t have ID and tried to buy beer, she’d have gotten carded. If Tammy and I go to Svinemosen just the two of us, something messed up is going to happen to kick our asses. Bringing the others along kinda guarantees we’ll be wasting everyone’s time.

Sorta like rolling up on a guy the paperwork says is highly dangerous in a HUD property with forty SWAT officers for backup and the resident is a completely easy-going, laid back dude who gives no one any trouble.

Much rather that than the opposite situation.

Anyway, it takes me a few minutes to walk out of the hotel and find a nice shadowy alley where I’m out of view for takeoff. To minimize the odds of anyone seeing me, I fly straight up to about 500 feet before angling to the east and gaining speed.

Even though we’re quite a bit farther south than we’d been in Finland, being at this altitude over mostly water makes for rather chilly conditions. Bornholm will be a difficult island to miss, being far from small. It’s weird to think about some countries in Europe are smaller than some US states. I go up a little higher for a better view, and fly east over the city of Malmö. Fortunately, I’m small enough that I don’t set off a military response.

It happened to me back home once when going out with Talos for a fun flight. Apparently, he’s big enough to show up on radar and some twitchy dude decided to scramble some F-16s to go figure out what the UFO was. Fortunately, we heard them coming in time to get out of the air and shapeshift back to normal me. The Air Force probably chalked that up to a software glitch since they didn’t find any wreckage. Just a naked woman walking in an empty field, which I’m sure the fighter pilots couldn’t even see from so high up.

I cruise across the bottom end of Sweden, heading for the ocean. When I get near the coast, lights from a city at the southwestern corner come into view. Bornholm isn’t directly east of Copenhagen, it’s maybe twenty miles south and a hundred or so miles east. Although closer to Sweden, the island of Bornholm is part of Denmark. That makes the fly-then-teleport option a much more convenient idea. Trying to go there the conventional way would’ve sent us through international customs.

So, yeah. This is way faster. We might be assisting a forgotten goddess, but I’d still rather it didn’t cut into our vacation time.

Talos, are you out there?

Of course, replies his comforting, deep voice in my head.
